The Virginia Tech softball team earned an at-large berth in the 2013 NCAA Softball Championship, as announced Sunday night on ESPNU.The Hokies will face future ACC member Notre Dame in the first round of the Lexington (KY) Regional and will be joined by Marshall and 12th-seeded and host Kentucky in the regional to be held at John Cropp Stadium on UK’s campus. Tech is the No. 3 seed and will be the visitors against the second-seeded Irish.

Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver has announced that the school will start a women’s golf program, which will begin to compete as a team in the fall of 2015. Women’s golf will become the school’s 22nd intercollegiate sports program.

Tyler Horan, again, led the Hokies offense, but it was Mark Zagunis’ second home run of the day that sent No. 22 Virginia Tech off the field with 7-6 victory over visiting Marist in 10 frames at English Field in non-conference action Sunday afternoon.

Charleston Southern rallied for a 13-7 win Sunday at RU Stadium on Senior Day and took the series from the Highlanders in the rubber match of the three-game Big South set. The Buccaneers scored seven times in the final three innings and overcame a 6-3 deficit for the victory.
