FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a USA South baseball win at home Monday afternoon, beating Christopher Newport University 4-0 at Panther Field. The win avenged yesterday's 9-7 loss to CNU in 10 innings.
The Panthers got two runs in the first inning on a Justin Franklin 2-RBI single to right field, with Charles Beacom and Paul Jaglowski scoring on the play. Franklin went 3-4 with a run and two RBI, while Beacom went 2-4 with a run.
Starter Brian Mays (James River) held the Captains at bay through eight innings to get the win. Mays allowed three hits and no runs, struck out five and walked three. Tyler Easterly pitched the final inning. He allowed one hit and no runs, struck out two and walked none.
Shannon Mark went 2-4 for CNU (8-4, 2-2 USA South). The Captains registered just four base hits on the day. Starter Sean Chitsaz absorbed the loss, pitching seven innings and surrendering two earned runs.
Ferrum (8-2, 1-1 USA South) returns to action Wednesday, March 10, at home against Penn. State Harrisburg. The non-conference game gets under way at 7 p.m. at Panther Field.
