Hollins took to the field looking to raise their record above the .500 mark for the first time this season when they hosted Randolph Macon College on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets netted the first shot of the match at the 2:05 mark to take an early lead. Hollins had several chances to tie the score with the last really good opportunity coming with 3:50 left in the match but were unable to find the net and fell in their ODAC opener 1-0.
Keeper Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Battlefield), left, stopped 17 Yellow Jacket shots as she and the defense kept Hollins in the match throughout. Becca Logan (Hurricane, WV/Hurricane) was able to get off 11 shots with six of them on goal. Her best opportunity came in the final four minutes when she took a long pass from Erica Smith (Louisa, VA/Louisa) and beat her defender but could not get her shot past Macon's keeper, China Bradley.
All the offense that Randolph Macon needed came off the foot of Amanda Nelms when she took a pass from Erin Hauser and scored two minutes in. Bradley made seven saves for the Yellow Jackets and protected the 1-0 lead for the final 88 minutes of the match.
Hollins has a short turnaround as they take the field today against Peace College. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00pm.
