Spirits Too Much For Hollins

The Hollins University soccer team traveled back to North Carolina for the first time since a season opening trip to Raleigh and Greensboro.  Hollins faced Salem College on Wednesday afternoon looking to break a three game skid.

The Hollins offense, in need of a breakout game, was unable to get anything going early and fell behind when Salem scored less than ten minutes into the matchup.  The Spirits didn't stop there and five goals later Hollins found themselves down 5-0 at the break.  Hollins was able to get on the board in the second half but it wasn't enough as Hollins fell on the road 6-1.

Kelli Kitchens (Roanoke, VA/William Byrd) scored her first goal in a Hollins uniform.  Kitchens took a pass from Morgan Wood (Rocky Mount, VA/Home Schooled) and found the back of the net.  Kitchens scored one goal on her team high three shots.  Kristen Norkus (Gainesville, VA/Westfield) recorded a game high six saves in net.

Sawyer Ferguson scored two goals, the first two of the game.  Amanda Orsino and Anna Trakas each added a goal and an assist.  Courtney Hedgecock and Erica Edwards rounded out the scoring for Salem.

Hollins starts ODAC play with a trip to Randolph-Macon on Saturday.  The game with the Yellow Jackets is scheduled to start at 2:30pm.
