Senior Nichole Beall and junior Jackie Jenkins played key roles in a 4-1 week, which included a Big South road sweep at Winthrop. For their efforts, the duo was named the Big South’s Choice Hotels Player and The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week, respectively, announced the league office on Monday afternoon.
Recording a hit in all five contests, Beall batted .438 (7-16) with four doubles, two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored. Six of her seven hits went for extra bases, which produced a 1.062 slugging percentage, while her five free passes pushed her on base percentage to .571. The shortstop highlighted her week with a 3-for-3 performance, which included two doubles, a home run, two runs and two RBI against UNCG. She also homered and knocked in three in an 8-0 game-two win at Winthrop.
While she was at Winthrop, Beall set a new program record for total bases in game one and followed that with her 50th collegiate long ball in game two.
Jenkins recorded three complete game victories, including a pair of shutouts last week. The right-handed twirler allowed just one run in 21 innings to post a miniscule 0.33 ERA. She opened the week by tossing a three-hit blanking against UNCG and capped off her stellar stretch with a four-hit shutout at Winthrop on Sunday. In between, she scattered five hits and allowed a run during an 8-1 victory over the Eagles on Saturday. Jenkins surrendered just 12 hits, none of which went for extra bases, as teams hit just .162 against her for the week.
Radford returns home on Tuesday for 7 p.m. contest against Virginia Tech.
