Head strength and conditioning coach Michael Shumaker has announced the hiring of Michele Huffman to Radford’s strength and conditioning staff. She joins the Highlanders after serving as a graduate assistant at Stephen F. Austin in Nacogdoches, Texas.
“We are excited about Michele joining the RU Strength and Conditioning Staff,” Shumaker said. “She brings experience and knowledge to our staff.”
Huffman brings with her nearly three years experience in the strength and conditioning field. While a graduate assistant at the Jimmy W. Murphy Wellness Center, she assisted with the design and implementation of sport-specific strength and conditioning programs for Stephen F. Austin’s football, men’s and women’s basketball and softball programs, while individually developing programs for women’s soccer, volleyball, tennis, and men’s and women’s sprinters. Prior to her graduate assistant position, Huffman was a student intern at the facility.
While earning her Bachelor’s degree in health science, Huffman was a standout on Stephen F. Austin’s softball squad for four years under head coach Gay McNutt. She led the Ladyjacks to the Southland Conference Tournament title in 2008, which earned them an automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals. In 2010, SFA claimed the Southland Conference Regular Season crown.
“She has a lot of energy and is very passionate about strength and conditioning, which is a great combination for a strength coach to have when working with collegiate athletes,” Shumaker added.
The Fort Worth, Texas native received her Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Stephen F. Austin in May 2012. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC).
