WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Junior Callum Tarren (Darlington, England / Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form) was in the zone Monday, carding a career-best 8-under 134 (64-70) through two rounds of the Joe Agee Invitational and leading Radford to a tie for first place with High Point heading into Tuesday's final round. The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par 71, 6,837-yard Williamsburg Club.
The Highlanders turned in a 1-over 285 in the first round and a 3-over 287 in the second round to tie the Panthers' two-round total of 572 (287-285).
Despite his spectacular performance, Tarren is tied with High Point's Chase Wilson for the overnight lead in the individual chase. Wilson carded back-to-back 4-under 67's to keep up with Tarren.
Tarren's morning round of 7-under-par is not only the lowest 18-hole total in his career, but for any current Highlander golfer. His first round included nine birdies, which led the field, against two bogeys. Through two rounds, Tarren leads the field in birdies (11) and is second in par-4 scoring at 5-under-par.
His second round featured an eagle and two birdies, against three bogeys. Tarren is tied for third in par-5 scoring with teammate Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) at 4-under-par.
Eklund also dipped into the red today, carding a two-round ledger of 4-under 138 (70-68). In addition to his par-5 scoring, Eklund is third in par-4 scoring at 2-under-par. He enters the final 18 holes all alone in third place.
Sophomore Tanner Carbaugh (Eggleston, Va. / Giles) is tied for 21st on the leaderboard through two rounds of play. Tied for second in par-3 scoring at 1-under-par, Carbaugh recorded a 149 (76-73). Three strokes behind is freshman Conner Hayden (Chilhowie, Va. / Chilhowie), who fired a 152 (76-76) to tie for 30th, while junior Ryan Rettberg (Front Royal, Va. / Skyline) finished with a 153 (75-78) to tie for 33rd.
