RED TEAM NOTES
Coaching Staff: Ryan Connolly (HC), Ryan Speier
Probable Starters:
Friday – LHP Michael Boyle (freshman in '13)
Saturday – LHP Jeff Maxwell (1-2, 4.59 ERA in '12)
Sunday – RHP Dylan Nelson (freshman in '13)
Top Returners:
SS Jeff Kemp – First Team All-Big South … 31st round pick of the Angels in the 2012 Draft … Team-leading 48 RBIs in 47 games
LHP Jeff Maxwell – Solid lefty reliever down the stretch for the Highlanders – posted a 2.61 ERA and .237 opponents' average in May
Connolly's Scouting Report: “We've got some youth on the mound and I really think Michael Boyle can go head-to-head with Tyler Costello on Friday night. From a lineup standpoint, we've got a lot of experience at the top. Leadoff man Blake Sipe had a good summer, Josh Reavis understands what he's trying to accomplish in the No. 2 hole, and then Jeff Kemp is the key to the entire lineup in the No. 3 spot. We've got power from the No. 2 spot all the way down. We're pretty excited about our lineup and think we have a chance to get hot and put up a lot of runs. It'll be a challenge facing Costello and Fritz, and we'll have to have a good approach offensively.”
