High Point, NC - Kymesha Alston (Hampton, Va./Heritage (Manhattan) garnered second-team All-Big South accolades, announced the league Thursday evening from High Point University. Da' naria Erwin Spencer (Charlotte, N.C./East Mecklenburg) and Kaylyn Crosier (South Charleston, W. Va./South Charleston) were also honored as they were named to the conference’s all-freshmen and all-academic teams, respectively.
The all-conference and all-freshmen teams are voted on by the league’s head coaches and media panel, while the academic squad is voted on by the conference’s sports information directors.
Alston leads the Highlanders, averaging 12.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per contest, ranking her eighth and 10th in the league, respectively. The 2009-10 preseason a ll-conference selection has recorded 17 double-figure scoring games and reached the 20-point mark on three occasions, including a career-high 24 points at High Point. She also dropped in 23 at Marshall and 21 vs. the Panthers earlier in the season.
Erwin Spencer is second amongst rookies in scoring, assists and steals, ranking her 16th, sixth and ninth in the conference, respectively. The two-time freshman of the week, is the leagues best free throw shooter at 77.6 percent and has reached double figures in scoring 10 times during the conference slate. She dropped in a career-best 24 at High Points, along with 18 in her first-ever league contest at Gardner-Webb.
Crosier holds a 3.2 GPA in nutrition and dietetics. Along with one 4.0 semester, the junior has been a member of Radford’s Dean’s list and the Big South’s Presidential Honor Roll. On the court, Crosier is averaging 6.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 25 contests. She poured in a career-best 17 at Presbyterian, while also tallying 13 points against Charleston Southern and VCU.
Radford opens up play at the Advance Auto Parts Big South Championship on Friday, March 12 for a quarterfinal matchup with Liberty at 5:30 p.m. The three-day tourney will hosted by High Point University at the Millis Center.
