Roanoke's Smith, England Named ODAC Cross Country Runners Of The Week

rp primary england-smith60FOREST - Roanoke College senior Tim Smith and sophomore Grace England were named ODAC Cross Country Runners of the Week, announced Monday.  This is the second time this season Smith has garnered the weekly award, while the first for England in 2012.

 

England, a sophomore from Dublin, Va., won the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday.  She completed the five-kilometer course in 20:55.90, besting the second place time in the 41-runner field by 32.10 seconds at Salem's Mowles Spring Park.  England's win helped Roanoke to the team title in the event as the Maroons' had all five of their scoring runners place inside the top-11.
 
Smith, a senior from Roanoke, Va., picks up his second weekly award of the season after winning the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday.  Smith completed the eight-kilometer course at Mowles Spring Park with a time of 27:54.30.  Smith's time was 40.70 seconds faster than the second place time as he blistered the 42-runner field at the site of the 2009 ODAC Cross Country Championships.  Roanoke won the team-title with each of their five scoring runners placing inside the top-11.
 
The men's and women's cross country teams return to action on September 29th, as they travel to Salisbury, MD to compete in the Cathcart Invitational.  The race is scheduled to begin at 9:45 AM.
