The Roanoke College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Bridgewater College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.
The Maroons now hold a record of 6-3-1, 4-1 ODAC, while the Eagles rise to 7-3-1, 4-1-1 in ODAC play. Today's loss to Bridgewater marks the first time the Eagles have gotten the best of the Maroons, as the all-time series record now sits at 14-1-1.
Both teams played a defensively sound game through the first 64 minutes of the contest, as neither team had found the back of the net. But at 64:31, Bridgewater's Melanie Waters was awarded a penalty kick, which she successfully converted and gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. With 10 minutes to play, Waters found herself on a breakaway, and slipped one past the keeper to give Bridgewater a 2-0 advantage. The Eagles held the two goal lead for the remainder of the contest to defeat the Maroons.
Roanoke held the edge in shots 10-6, while Bridgewater was awarded more corner kicks (4-1).Rebekah Adams led the Maroons in shots with three while Carmen Graves and Lauren O'Brian had two each. Carolyn Sarbacher played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied four saves.
