The Roanoke College women’s soccer team defeated Hollins University 6-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Friday. The Maroons now hold a record of 7-4-1 and are 5-2 in the ODAC, while Hollins now sits at 3-9 and are 1-5 in ODAC play.
The Maroons are 29-3 all-time against Hollins and have won the last 29 consecutive games. Roanoke also defeated Hollins by the score of 6-0 when the teams met in 2011. In the 32 meetings between the two teams, the Maroons have outscored Hollins 182-21.
Rebekah Adams and Carmen Graves (Christiansburg, VA/Christiansburg) continue to lead Roanoke in goals, as each found the back of the net in the first half. Adams and Graves now have eight goals a piece on the season. It’s also interesting to note, that they each notched the assist for the other’s goal in the period.
In the second half, the Maroons got back to scoring quickly when Stephanie Parenteau scored just 1:11 into the period. Parenteau scored again just seven minutes later, after fielding a pass from Adams. Kirstin Figel and Candace Connolly, who tallied their first goals of the season, scored the final two goals for Roanoke, giving the Maroons the 6-0 victory.
Roanoke outshot hollins 46-2 , with Parenteau leading the team with nine shots. Right behind Parenteau was Kara Kapel, who took five shots. The Maroons also held the lead in corner kicks 12-0. Kristyn Brogan played 23:45 in goal, and made the Maroons only save of the night. Hollins’ Brandi Chesne spent all 90 minutes in goal and gathered 15 saves over the course of the contest.
The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, October 9th as they travel to face Emory & Henry in ODAC action. The contest is scheduled for a 6:00 PM start.
