DANVILLE, KY – The Roanoke volleyball team (16-14, 5-6 ODAC) dropped two contests over the weekend to two Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference teams, Bluffton University 3-0 (20-25, 19-25, 22-25) and Mount St. Joseph (9-25, 19-25, 21-25) on Saturday. This was the first meeting between Roanoke and its two opponents this weekend.
The Maroons, who earned the #7 seed in the ODAC Tournament, took to Centre College on Saturday to face off against two opponents they had never faced before.
Against the Beavers of Bluffton, Alexandra Martin led the team with 18 assists, while Shannon Stone tallied 10. Sarah long topped the Maroons in kills with 10, followed by Macey Tyree who finished with eight. Mackenzie Tyree, who leads Roanoke in digs this season, finished the match with 25.
The Maroons faced a possibly tougher team in the Lions of Mount St. Joseph in the second match of the day. Mackenzie Tyree finished the match with 13 digs. Alexandra Martin had the most assists of the squad with seven, followed by Stone and Jordan Haga with four and three, respectively. Sarah Long and Mackenzie Tyree each put away four kills on the afternoon.
Roanoke will play Washington and Lee in the opening round of the ODAC Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, October 31st. The Generals earned the #2 seed with a conference record of 10-1. The Maroons played W&L tight in their meeting earlier in the season, 3-1 (25-23, 11-25, 23-25, 24-26).
