PENN LAIRD – The Roanoke College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2012 ODAC Cross Country Championships on Saturday. The men finished third out of 11 teams, while the women took sixth out of 10 teams.
On the men's side, Tim Smith led the Maroons in the 8k run with a time of 27:27.88. Harrison Toney took the #2 spot for the team, placing 14th, crossing the line in 27:48. Austin Grubb rounded out the top 25 of the ODAC runners with a time of 28:41. Cody Meadows finished the race in 30:19 to take 50th in the 8k, while Brian Ruane finished three runners later for 53rd in 30:32.99.
Trevor Quesenberry placed 57th in his best race of the season, completing the course in 30:52. Dan Zimmerman ran the race in 31:32 (65th), Josh Wojtysiak finished in 32:07 (71st), and Nicholas Wright placed 75th with a time of 32:47.18.
“Harrison Toney had a tremendous race today,” Coach Finn Pincus said, “Earning all-ODAC honors as a freshman is excellent. Cody was another big reason for our third place finish today.”
For the Women, Grace England was the top Maroon runner, finishing the 6k in 11th place. She completed the course in 24:32.23. Leigha Schimmoeller finished just five runners behind England, crossing the line in 24:57.91. Emily Reichenbach (35th) and Hannah Cline (37th) finished just seconds apart, taking the race in 26:33 and 26:37, respectively.
Hannah Noble (28:10) and Whitney Spence (28:20) finished in 54th and 55th, whil Melissa Bauerly took 61st (28:43). Shannin Miksek completed the ODAC Championship 6k in a time of 29:11.
“Leigha ran a strong race for the women,” Pincus said, “she was just one place and two seconds from making all-conference.”
Up next for the Maroons is the NCAA Southeast Regionals in Atlanta, Georga on Saturday, November 10th. The race is scheduled for a 10:00 AM start.
