Randolph-Macon Pulls Away To Escape Roanoke, 70-64

Roanoke-Maroons-LogoRoanoke kept the game close for all but the final five minutes of play as Randolph-Macon pulled out a 70-64 victory at the Bast Center Friday evening.  The Maroons record slips to 7-16 overall, 7-12 in the ODAC.  The Yellow Jackets improve to 14-10, 12-7 in conference play.

Roanoke took the lead, 56-55 with less than seven minutes to go before Randolph-Macon outscored the Maroons, 15-8 down the final stretch to seal their ninth win in their last 12 games.

Randolph-Macon shot 39.3% from the floor, in addition to 19-of-22 shooting from the free-throw line.  Roanoke went 25-of-64 (39.1%) shooting on the night, including 4-of-11 from beyond the arc.  The Yellow Jackets held a slim 41-40 advantage on the boards.

Paxton Gwin and Rachel Dellehunt led Roanoke with 17 points each, with Dellehunt adding five rebounds and three assists.  Tatum McKee led all players with a career-best 16 rebounds to go along with six points.

Maggie Roy, who scored her 1,000th point tonight, led all scorers with 20 points for R-MC.  Taylor Wieczorek had a double-double with 12 points and a team-best 11 rebounds.  Christina Phelps contributed 12 counters with seven boards and two blocked shots.

The women will celebrate senior day today as they host Virginia Wesleyan in their home finale.  The Maroons will recognize both Nicci Moats and Cappy Sullenberger prior to the start of the contest.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
