Virginia Tech outfielder Tyler Horan was named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper after a weekend that saw him belt four home runs in a pair of wins over Marist.

The Virginia Tech softball team earned an at-large berth in the 2013 NCAA Softball Championship, as announced Sunday night on ESPNU.The Hokies will face future ACC member Notre Dame in the first round of the Lexington (KY) Regional and will be joined by Marshall and 12th-seeded and host Kentucky in the regional to be held at John Cropp Stadium on UK’s campus. Tech is the No. 3 seed and will be the visitors against the second-seeded Irish.

Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Jim Weaver has announced that the school will start a women’s golf program, which will begin to compete as a team in the fall of 2015. Women’s golf will become the school’s 22nd intercollegiate sports program.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Six Hokies drove in runs and Maggie Tyler shut the door in relief to power sixth-seeded Virginia Tech to an 8-5 upset win over third-seeded Maryland Thursday in the quarterfinals of the 2013 ACC Softball Championship at JoAnne Graf Field on the campus of Florida State.

A pair of Virginia Tech softball players were honored for their play this year, being named all-conference Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Kylie McGoldrick (first team) and senior Courtney Liddle (second team) were both named to the All-ACC team, as voted on by the coaches.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Virginia Tech golf team has received an at-large bid to the 2013 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship. The Hokies will compete May 16-18, 2013, as the fifth seed in the Pullman Regional at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash., hosted by Washington State University.
