Game #5: Montgomery County 17, Radford 16

The final game of the day was a marathon.  Let's recap this game a little different...

Official time of game 2 hours, 36 minutes.  Total number of batters faced: 80 (Montgomery 40, Radford 40).  Total number of runs: 33 (Montgomery 17, Radford 16).  Total number of hits: 28 (Montgomery 13, Radford 15).  Total number of doubles: 8 (Montgomery 3, Radford 5).  Total number of walks: 14 (Montgomery 5, Radford 9).  Total number of pitchers used: 11 (Montgomery 5, Radford 6).  Total number of sunburns: hmm... (24 kids, 6 coaches, 2 umpires, most of the Motor Mile Park staff and lots of spectators!)

All tied at 16 headed into the sixth, Tanner DeHart would draw a walk to lead things off.  DeHart would steal second and a single of the bat of Ryan Albert would put Montgomery ahead 17-16.  In the bottom of the sixth, Zach Rutledge pitching for Montgomery would strike out the first batter.  Wes Parcell for Radford would single to get on base, but Rutledge would strike the next batter out followed by a groundout to leave Parcell stranded and end a wild baseball game.

Montgomery County (2-0) meets Blacksburg (1-0) on Monday night at 8:00PM.  Radford (1-1) will play again on Tuesday night against either Montgomery County or Blacksburg.  If its Montgomery, go ahead and pay the babysitter an extra hour of two cause it could be another slugfest.

Sunday will be an off day for the tournament as everyone breaks to celebrate the Forth of July.  Monday night features two games, at 6:00PM an elimination game between Christiansburg and Pulaski County East and at 8:00PM the last two undefeated teams, Montgomery County and Blacksburg, will meet.  Radford has a bye on Monday and will resume play on Tuesday.
