Patrick County jumped out to an early lead in cruising past Montgomery County, 15-6, in the second game on Saturday.
Patrick County took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first behind an RBI double by Josh Cochran and RBI singles by Nick Duncan and Garrett Worley.
In the top of the third, RBI singles by McCray Sawyers and a two-run single by Nick Duncan helped extend Patrick County’s lead to 8-0.
Montgomery County avoided the shutout in the top of the fourth. Matt Lawrence led off with a single, which was followed by a walk to Parker Hale. Lawrence was then caught trying to steal third. Alfred Shean then walked. An RBI fielder’s choice by Rusty Marshall scored Hale to make it 8-1.
In the top of the fifth, Bryson Fulcher led off with a triple, which was followed by an RBI triple off the bat Duncan. Duncan then scored on a pass ball to extend Patrick County’s lead to 10-1. Montgomery County answered in its half off the inning. Three-straight walks to Trevor Miles, Keiden Poff and Isaac Richardson loaded the bases. Miles then scored on a pass ball. A walk to Lawrence and an RBI walk to Hale and a two-run double off the bat Shean made it 10-5. Eddie Tickle then laced a two-out RBI single to score Hale and make the score the 10-6.
Patrick County would spoil any hopes of a Montgomery County comeback in the top of the sixth when they scored five runs on three hits to pull out to a 15-6. Montgomery County went down in order in its half of the inning.
Nick Duncan led Patrick County with four hits.
Alfred Shean led Montgomery County with two hits, while Reed Underwood, Matt Lawrence and Eddie Tickle added a hit.
Patrick County will play Pulaski East, who had a first round bye, at 2 p.m. today.
