Christiansburg scored seven runs in the fifth inning to turn a close game into a 10-0 rout of Appomattox in the semifinals Monday night. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the mercy rule.
Christiansburg, the only undefeated team remaining, plays Brunswick at 7 p.m. tonight for the state title and the right to represent Virginia in the AAA World Series starting August 4 in Florida. Brunswick, who lost 19-2 to Christiansburg on Sunday, will have to beat Christiansburg twice in order to win the crown. A if needed game will then be played Wednesday night.
Brunswick advanced to tonight's championship game by eliminating Salem 7-0 in the other semifinal game Monday night.
MJ Hunter led Christiansburg with two hits, while five other batters added a hit each.
Brady Kirtner picked up the win on the mound. He gave up no runs on one hit, walked none and struck out six in three innings.
