Louisiana Slugs Way Past North Carolina

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – Monroe, Louisiana forced a three team playoff on Championship night of the 2010 Dixie Boys Baseball World Series by defeating previously unbeaten Brunswick County, North Carolina 18-5 at Harkrader Sports Complex in Christiansburg, Virginia.

Louisiana blasted four home runs, including two from centerfielder Cade Harper, as Louisiana ended the game in five innings by the 10 run rule.

Harper connected on two run home runs in the second and fourth inning and finished the game with three hits.  It was the fourth and fifth home runs of the tournament for the Louisiana clean-up hitter.  Seth Christian connected on a three run shot in the seven run first inning for the first of his three hits, while Brian Barefoot followed with a solo shot in the same inning.

Will Watson added three hits and Quin Graves had two doubles in his three hits.

Patrick Wipple started and picked up the victory for Louisiana allowing two runs in three innings of work on just three hits, while striking out three.

Jared Strange had a single and a steal of home for North Carolina in the first, while Tyler Barnes took the loss on the mound.

The result forced a three team playoff for the championship.  In a blind draw, Laurel-Jones County, Mississippi earned a bye into the championship game as Louisiana and North Carolina will meet at 5:00 to determine the championship opponent.  The title game will follow 30 minutes after the first game.
