Game 5: Eastern Montgomery County 6 Botetourt County 2
Defense was the name of the game in the first inning as each squad went down 1-2-3. East Mont would strike first in the top of the second as Alexus Richardson and Scarlett Sisson would get on base and come around to score to make it 2-0 East Mont after two.
East Mont would increase their lead in the third adding 3 more runs. Singles by Abby Linkous, Kristine Hurst and Mikayla Phoenix would get runners on bases for Tayler Lewis and Hailey Ferguson to drive in. Botetourt would get a run in the bottom of the forth thanks to a single from Kelsey Olyer but would run themselves out of the inning with runners being thrown out at second and third base.
East Mont would get an insurance run the fifth thanks to a lead off double from Phoenix. Botetourt would manage a run the the bottom of the sixth thanks to an Amber Moon single, it wasn't enough though as East Mont's pitching duo of Richardson and Sisson would end the scoring right there and place their team in Monday's championship game.
Although being eliminated from the tournament, Botetourt was presented with the sportsmanship award for the tournament. The trophy was earned by the sportsmanship displayed by the girls, coaches and parents.
Eastern Montgomery County (2-1) advances to meet Montgomery County (2-0) Monday night at Motor Mile Park at 6:00PM. If East Mont wins, the teams will play again 30 minutes later to decide the championship. It should be a good one, as the first meeting between these two teams ended in a 5-4 thriller for Montgomery County.
