Christiansburg, Botetourt Nationals Win On Day 3 Of Dixie Angels Tournament

jlf_dg_100627_dixieponytails_radcburg_20On a hot and blistering Sunday afternoon, the slaughter rule would be the norm in both games of the Dixie Angels All-Stars Softball Tournament being played at Radford's Veterans Field, as Christianburg eliminated Radford, 15-5 and Botetourt Nationals remained unbeaten, as they knocked off previously unbeaten Botetourt American, 14-3.

Blacksburg will play Botetourt American in an elimination game at 6 p.m. tonight, while Christiansburg meets Boetourt Nationals in the nightcap at 8 p.m. Both games will be played at Veterans Field No. 1.

In the opening game Sunday, Christiansburg would break loose for nine runs in the fourth inning to eliminate Radford, 15-5.

Radford would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A double by Kiara Walker, along with singles by Tianna Eves and Haley Powell highlighted the inning. Christiansburg would answer with three runs of its own in the bottom of the inning. Hits by Haley Moore and Jesse Burleson, along with two errors accounted for the scoring.

In the top of the second, Radford would use a hit by Bailee Cox, along with two walks and error to score twice and tie the game at 3-3. Christiansburg answered with a run in the bottom of the inning to regain the advantage, 4-3.

In the bottom of the third, Christiansburg would take advantage of Radford's miscues in the field, as they pushed across a pair of runs to up their lead to 6-3.

Radford would pull to within one, 6-5, in the top of the fourth on a walk by Michaela Jarrett, a fielder's choice by Morgan Kinder and a triple off the bat of Cox. Christiansburg would take control in the bottom of the inning. A triple by Emily Hoover, along with hits by Kelsey Hall and Burleson would contributed to the outburst that saw Christiansburg to cross the plate nine times to claim the 15-5 victory.

Bailee Cox led Radford with two hits, including a triple. Kiara Walker, Tianna Eaves and Haley Powell added a hit each.

Jesse Burleson led Christiansburg with two hits.

The second game featured two teams that entered the day undefeated, Botetourt Nationals and Botetourt American. When the contest was over, the Nationals remain unbeaten with a 14-3 victory.

Botetourt American would take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on singles by Meghan Victorine and Brooklyn Shelton and then added another run in the bottom of the third on three walks and a single by Mackenzie Oesterreich.

Botetourt Nationals would break loose in the top of the third innng when they scored 14 times. Hits by Tiffany Green, Lauren Mayhew, Emily Walker, Emily Moran and Hanna Nelms, along with 10 walks and few miscues by the Americans accounted for the outburst, as the game was then called due to the slaugheter rule.

Mackenzie Oesterreich, Meghan Victorine and Brooklyn Shelton led the Botetourt Americans with a hit each.

Tiffany Green, Hannah Nelms, Emily Walker and Emily Moran all had one hit apiece for Botetourt Nationals.

Saturday, July 26

In Saturday's action, Botetourt American defeated Radford, 10-0, in the openimg game of the day. In the second game, Christiansburg eliminated Montgomery County 14-1 and Botetourt Nationals knocked off Blacksburg 24-2.

Friday, July 25

In Friday night's opening round games, Blacksburg defeated Montgomery County 17-13 and Botetourt Nationals topped Christiansburg.
