Christiansburg, Pulaski County East And Blacksburg Win On Day 1 Of Dixie AAA Baseball Tournament

pcbbThe slaughter rule was the norm Friday evening, as all three games of the opening night of the Dixie AAA District Baseball Tournament being played at Randolph Park ended by the 10-run rule.

The afternoon started off with Christianburg beating Montgomery County 12-2, Pulaski County East downing Pulaski County West 17-3 and Blacksburg topping Radford 12-2.

Action will continue today at Randolph Park. Blacksburg meets Patrick County, who received a bye, at 10 a.m. Pulaski County West takes on Montgomery County at 12 p.m. in an elimination game, while Christiansburg tangles with Pulaski County East at 2 p.m. Radford returns to the diamond at 6 p.m. Monday.

Blacksburg 12, Radford 2 (Five Innings)

Blacksburg spotted Radford an early 2-0 lead, before coming back to claim a 12-2 victory in the nightcap Friday.

After a scoreless first inning, Radford would strike for a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Bayley Holbrook led off with a walk, Chet Klippen reached on a one-out error, Christian Muttard would single and Parker Griffith would hit an RBI fielder's choice.

Blacksburg would tie the game in the bottom of third. Eric Wiles led off with a single and later scored on a pass ball. Cordell Croy then singled and later scored on RBI single by Jared Madigan.

In the bottom of the fourth, an RBI single by Craig Weaver, an RBI single by Dom Hughes, and a two-run single by Hunter Radford highlighted a five-run inning, which saw Blacksburg pull out to a 7-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth, Blackburg would use three errors, an RBI walk by Wiles and RBI single from Madigan to cross the plate five times and claim the 12-2 victory.

Christian Muttard got the lone Radford hit.

Jared Madigan led Blacksburg with three hits and an RBI, while Craig Weaver added two hits and an RBI and Hunter Radford finished with one hit and two RBIs.


Pulaski County East 17, Pulaski County West 3 (Four Innings)

In a battle of the two teams representing Pulaski County, the East squad would break loose for 13 runs in the second and third innngs, as they cruised to the easy 17-3 win over their West counterparts in the second game Friday.

The East would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. In an infield single by Trent Blankenship, followed by Jaden Frazier being hit by a pitch and a walk by Andrew Lowe would load the bases for Caleb Kirtner, who was the recipient of two-out RBI walk.

Pulaski East would start to pull away in the top of the second. An RBI walk to Adam Baber, a two RBI single by Jordan Lytton, a two-run triple by Blankenship and an RBI fielder's choice by Alex Akers led to a sixrun outburst to give the East a 7-0 advantage.

In the third, the East would take complete control, as they busted loose for seven runs to pull out to a commanding 14-0 lead. An RBI double by Thomas Anderson, an RBI fielder's choice by Randy Brunk, a two-run single by Blankenship, a two-run homer by Frazier highlighted the inning.

Pulaski County East would take a 17-0 lead in the top of the fourth behind an RBI fielder's choice off the bat Alex Dalton and an RBI single from Akers.

Pulaski County West would avoid the shutout, as they scored three times in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI fielder's choice by Houston Webb and a two-run triple by Bailey Ayers would make the final, 17-3, Pualski County East.

Cole Duncan and Bailey Ayers led Pulaski County West with one hit each.

Trent Blankenship led Pulaski County East with three hits and four RBIs. Jordan Lytton talled two hits and two RBIs, Alex Akers recorded two hits and two RBIs, Jaden Frazier had one hit, a homer, and two RBIs, Thomas Anderson added a hit and an RBI, while Caleb Kirtner finished with a hit.

Jaden Frazier earned the win on the mound for Pulaski County East.


Christiansburg 12, Montgomery County 2 (Four Innings)

Christiansburg would score six times in the second inning, as they pulled away for a 12-2 victory against Montgomery County in the opening game Friday afternoon.

After holding Montgomery County scoreless in the top of the first, Christiansburg would get things rolling its way in the bottom of the inning. Zach Taft led off with a triple and then scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Kyle Johnson. Jeremy Thomas followed with a single, Cam Nagle followed with an RBI single, which was followed by Hunter Davis'  RBI fielder's choice and Ryan McFee's double, which gave Christiansburg a 3-0 lead.

Chrisiansburg would put this one away in the bottom of the second. A two-run single by Taft, a two-run triple by William Stout, an RBI double off the bat of Johnson, followed an RBI single from Thomas acounted for six runs, as Christiansburg pulled out to a 9-0 advantage.

Montgomery County would finally get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Austin Kirtner and Drew Hill, was followed by an RBI sacrifice fly by Trevor Brown, which was then followed a by a one-run single off the bat of Landon Lawson to make it 9-2.

Christiansburg would tack on three runs in the bottom of the fourth behind a two-run single off the bat of Taft to make the final 12-2. The game was called at the point due to the slaughter rule.

Landon Lawson led Montgomery County with two hits and an RBI. Austin Kirtner and Drew Hill both finished with one hit apiece

Zach Taft led Christiansburg with three hits and four RBIs. Jeremy Thomas had two hits and an RBI, William Stout added a hit and two RBIs, Kyle Johnson added a hit and an RBI, Ryan McFee finished with three hits, Cam Nagle had two hits, Drake Vaughn tallied two hits and Tommy Darr recorded a hit.

William Stout picked up the win on the mound for Christiansburg.
