Pulaski County East, Radford, Christiansburg Advance After Monday's Dixie AAA Baseball Action

cburg1Pulaski County East, Radford and Christianburg all picked wins Monday in the third day of the Dixie AAA District Baseball Tournament being contest at Randolph Park in Dublin.


Pulaski County East 5, Blacksburg 4

In a battle of two unbeaten teams, Pulaski County East would rally for three runs in the fifth inning, as they handed Blacksburg its first loss, 5-4, in the nightcap Monday night.

Blacksburg now meets Christiansburg at 6 p.m. tonight in an eliminattion game, while Pulaski County East plays Radford at 8 p.m.

Blacksburg would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by Ben Freel and an RBI fielder's choice by Davis Robertson.

Blacksburg added another run in the top of the third when Grant Johnston singled and later scored on a pass ball.

In the fourth, Jacob Lucas would nail a one-out double and then scored on an RBI single by Cole Epperly to give Blacksburg a 4-0 advantage.

Pulaski County East would cut its deficit in half, 4-2, in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI fielder's choice by Jordan Lytton and two errors accounted for the scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth, an RBI single by Alex Dalton, an RBI walk by Chris Remington and an RBI single by Lytten highlighted an three-run outburst, as Pulaski County East would take its first lead of the night, 5-4.

Blacksburg would go down in order in the top of the sixth, as Pulaski County East remained the only unbeaten team remaining in the tournament.

Jared Madigan led Blacksburg with three hits, Cole Epperly added two hits and an RBI, while Jacob Lucas finished with two hits.

Cordell Croy was tagged with the loss for Blacksburg.

Alex Dalton and Jordan Lytton both led Pulaski County East with a hit and an RBI.

Alex Akers picked up the win on the mound for Pulaski County East.


Radford 5, Montgomery County 4 (Seven innings, elimination game)

Reese Williamson hit a walk-off bloop single over the first baseman's head, as Radford claimed an exciting 5-4 seven-inning victory over Montgomery County in an elimination game Monday evening.

Radford now meets unbeaten Pulaski County East at 6 p.m. tonight.

With the game knotted at 4-all heading into the bottom of the seventh, Taylor Newcome would lead off with a walk and Chance Morris followed with a single that moved Newsome to third. Williamson would then get the game-winning blooper, which allowed Newcome to score the winning run and make the final 5-4, Radford.

Montgomery County would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Drew Hill doubled and scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Trevor Brown.

In the top of the fourth, Montgomery County increased its lead to 2-0 when Hill reached on an error and later scored on an error.

Radford would tie the game at 2-2 in its half of the four inning. An RBI single by Brett Armentrout, who then scored on a pass ball highlighted the inning.

An RBI fielder's choice by Williamson and an RBI single off the bat of Armentrout would plate two runs for Radford as they pulled out to a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

Montgomery County would tie the game once again, this time at 4-4 in the top of the sixth. Three walks, an error and RBI single by Jonathan Cecil accounted for the scoring, thus setting up the exciting ending in the bottom of the seventh.

Jonathan Cecil led Montgomery County with a hit and an RBI. Drew Hill and Trevor Brown added a hit each.

Brady Harris, who relieved Drew Hill in the seventh inning, was tagged with the hard-luck loss.

Brett Armentrout led Radford with three hits and two RBIs. Chance Morris posted three hits, Bayley Holbrook had two hits, Reese Williamson recorded a hit and RBI, Taylor Newcome added a hit and Parker Griffith finished with a hit.

Chance Morris, who came on in the top of the seventh in relief of Reese Williamson, who hurled six strong innings, was creditted with the win for Radford.


Christiansburg 8, Patrick County 6 (Elimination Game)

Christiansburg would break loose for seven runs in the third inning and then hold off a late Patrick County rally, as they took and 8-6 win in the opening game Monday afternoon.

Christiansburg takes on Blacksburg in an elimination game starting at 6 p.m. tonight

Patrick County would take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Kristian Ashburne singled, followed by one-out walk by Brandon Hubbard. Both would later score on pass balls.

Christiansburg would come to life in the bottom of the third. A two-run single by Zach Taft, an RBI single from Kyle Johnson, along with a three-run triple off the bat Hunter Davis highlighted the inning that saw Christiansburg cross the plate seven times and take a 7-2 lead.

Patrick County would add a run in the top of the fourth on an RBI walk by Landon Augustine to make the score 7-3. In the bottom of the inning, a double bu Garrett Graham, who later scored on an error would increased the Christiansburg advantage to 8-3.

In the top of the fifth, a walk, a single, an RBI single by Andrew Collins, an error and and an RBI fielder's choice by William Wood would account for three Patrick County runs, as they pulled to within two, 8-6.

Patrick County would go down in order in the top of the sixth, as Christiansburg held on for the victory.

Andrew Collins, who also took the loss on the mound for Patrick County, led his team with two hits and an RBI.

William Stout, who picked up the win on the mound, led Christiansburg with two hits. Hunter Davis had one hit and three RBIs, Zach Taft had one hit and two RBIs, Kyle Johnson added one hit and an RBI, while Jeremy Thomas and Garrett Graham finished with one hit apiece.

In Saturday's action, Blacksburg scored 11 runs in the third inning and six more in the fifth to beat Patrick County, 17-7.

Montgomery County would score four runs in the sixth inning to eliminate Pulaski County West, 13-12.

Pulaski County East stayed unbeaten, as they held off Christiansburg, 6-5.
