Christiansburg and Blacksburg Pick Up Day 3 Wins

After taking the 4th of July off to celebrate, all-star baseball teams got back to work on Monday at the Dixie Ozone District 3 Tournament at Motor Mile Park.

Game #6: Christiansburg 19, Pulaski County East 3

The first game of the night saw Christiansburg eliminate Pulaski County East.  Charlie Jackson and Levi Bower would both come around in the top of the first to give Christiansburg the early lead.  Pulaski would strike right back in the bottom of the first as Sydney Green and Brian Dalton would both score.  In the top of the second Drew Duffie would score thanks to an RBI single from Nick Carroll.  Pulaski would answer that run as well in the bottom of the second as Dylan Danner would score to even the game at 3 after two full innings.

Christiansburg would turn up the heat and score 16 over the next three innings while holding Pulaski scoreless.  Jackson and Bower lead the attack as Jackson would go 4-4 with four runs scored, three doubles and a single and picking up three RBIs.  Bower would finish 2-2 officially with four runs scored, five RBIs and launching the first home run of the tournament with a deep blast to left center field in the fourth.  Pulaski gave it a great effort but being their second loss, was eliminated from the tournament.  Christiansburg advances to Tuesday night.

Game #7: Blacksburg 12, Montgomery County 4

In a showdown of the last two unbeaten in the tournament Blacksburg would prove to be too much for Montgomery.  Blacksburg would score first in the top of the first but after two runners were caught stealing the score would remain at 1-0 until the bottom of the second.  In the bottom of the second, Montgomery would score Tanner DeHart thanks to a Wesley Helms RBI double to tie the game up.  Helms and Cole Epperly would both come around to score on a 2RBI single from Adam Qusenberry.  Blacksburg however would get out of the inning while leaving the bases loaded with Montgomery players.

Blacksburg would explode in the top of the third platting 6 runs to regain the lead at 7-3.  Aaron Lucas would lead off with a single, later in the inning, Hal Hughes would get an RBI double and Bryce Nicolau would get an RBI triple to lead highlight the scoring.  Blacksburg was back at it in the fourth picking up four more runs to open the game up.  Andrew Roberson, Grayson Shelton, Hughes and Nicolau would all cross home plate.  Nicolau would score again the top of the sixth and Josh Howard would score for Montgomery in the bottom of the sixth to finish this game at 12-4 in favor of Blacksburg.

Blacksburg advances to Tuesday night with the win, Montgomery County also advances to Tuesday with this only being their first loss.  Radford who had a bye is also alive for a Tuesday night showdown.

Tuesday night should be a very interesting and exacting night at Motor Mile Park.  Both games are rematches from earlier tournament games that ended in one run decsions.  First up is Montgomery County (2-1) vs Radford (1-1), their first game ended in a 17-16 marathon won by Montgomery County.  The second game features Blacksburg (2-0) vs Christiansburg (1-1), their first game was a late inning thriller won by Blacksburg 6-5.  Come early and plan on staying late, the baseball action is heating up.

Tuesday's games:
Montgomery County (2-1) vs. Radford (1-1) 6:00PM
Blacksburg (2-0) vs. Christiansburg (1-1) 8:00PM

Pulaski had a travel team that played this year with at least half those kids on it. They have plenty of skill and had the deepest/best pitching in the tournament. They played a heck of a tourney and big congrats to them and good luck at states. Funny how I know BBurg doesn't have a travel team Radford has a very limited one and Cburg had one that about half the kids on All Stars were on.

Note to Sore Losers....Where did you get "lack of skills"? I was simply stating that I beleive that the Pulaski teams did a great job for what short peroid of time that they had to practice. You saying that our kids have "lack of skills" is uncalled for and I hope that no player, from any team, ever has to hear an adult say that they don't have the skills. You should encourage kids to do their best at all things in life. We had good players on the teams for Pulaski and I hope that they keep on playing and ENJOYING the game!

Demon, you are right, those kids in the traveling teams are from the counties that they represnt. I was simply stating that our kids are from Rec teams and only had about one and half week of practice together and that they should hold their heads up for the job that they did.

The Pulaski County teams do not play enough baseball to become good. Travel ball gives the players a chance to develop as players. Pulaski parents should take the time and effort to develop their kids with travel ball, instead of crying about their kids lack of skills.

Why is a "traveling" team a bad thing to represent a county/town???? After all, the kids ARE from the town.....isn't that the requirement here?

Pulaksi's teams did a great job considering that they only had about a week and half to practice. They do not use "traveling" teams to represent the county, unlike the other localities. Good job Pulaksi County East and West teams. You all did a great job for the limited time you had to practice together. You all should hold your heads up and be proud of the hard work that you did!
