It was an exciting evening of baseball Tuesday night, as Blacksburg eliminated Christiansburg, 10-7, and Radford handed Pulaski County East its first loss, 5-4, in Day 4 of the Dixie AAA, District 3 All-Stars Baseball Tournament being played at Randolph Park in Dublin.
Radford now plays Blacksburg at 6 p.m. tonight. The winner meets Pulaski County East for the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday evening.
Radford 5, Pulaski County East 4
Radford broke out to an early lead and then held off a late Pulaski County East rally, as they handed Pulaski County East its first lost of the tournament, 5-4, in the nightcap Tuesday night.
Radford would strike first, as they plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning. Chance Morris was the recipient of a one-out walk, Reese Williamson followed with a double. Brett Armentrout would then nail a two-run double and later scored on an error.
Pulaski County East would score in its half of the fourth inning when Jordan Lytton led off with a single and eventually scored on an error to make it 3-1.
In the fifth inning, Radford would tack on a pair of runs. Clint Vaughan singled and later scored on an error and Williamson drove in a run off a single to give Radford a 5-1 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, Andrew Lowe led off with a double, which was followed by Caleb Kirtner's single. Randy Brunk then knocked in a run when he laced an RBI single. Lytton would then hit a two-out, RBI double to make the score, 5-4. With the tieing run at second, Trent Blankenship would strike out to end the rally.
Neither team would score in the sixth inning, as Radford hung on to hand Pulaski County East its first lost of the tournament and stay alive with the exciting 5-4 victory.
Reese Williamson led Radford with three hits and an RBI. Brett Armentrout added a hit and two RBIs, while Noah Dabney, Clint Vaughan and Bayley Holbrook finished with one hit apiece.
Jordan Lytton led Pulaski County East with three hits and RBI. Randy Brunk had one hot and an RBI. Jaden Frazier, Andrew Lowe, Caleb Kirtner and Alex Akers all finished with one hit each.
Blacksburg 10, Christiansburg 7
In a game that went back-and-forth, Blacksburg would eliminate Christiansburg, 10-7, to stay alive in the opening game Tuesday evening.
Christiansburg would score twice in the top of the first inning. Zach Taft would lead off the inning reaching base when he was hit by a pitch. He would later score on an error. Kyle Johnson would then lace a one-out single and would also score on an error, as Christiansburg took the 2-0 lead.
In the top of the second, back-to-back singles by Drake Vaughn and Garrett Graham was followed by a two-run double off the bat of Grayson Cridlin. Cridlin later scored on an error, as Christiansburg pulled out to a 5-0 advantage.
The Blacksburg bats would come to life in the bottom of the second. An RBI fielder's choice by Cordell Croy and RBI singles by Grant Johnston, Tiquest Terry and Jared Madigan would account for five runs, as Blacksburg knotted the score at 5-all.
Christiansburg would regain the lead in the top of the third, 7-5, behind an RBI double from Cam Nagle and an RBI single off the bat of Garrett Graham.
Blacksburg would answer in its half of the third inning, as they tied the game at 7-7, compliments of two-run double from Hunter Radford.
Blacksburg would add a run in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Dom Hughes and then added two more in the fifth inning, as they pulled away for the 10-7 victory and eliminate Christiansburg.
Garrett Graham led Christiansburg with two hits and an RBI, while Grayson Cridlin added a hit and two RBIs and Cam Nagle posted a hit and an RBI.
Jared Madigan led Blacksburg with two hits and an RBI. Hunter Radford had a hit and two RBIs, Grant Johnston had a hit and an RBI, Tiquest Terry had a hit and an RBI, Dom Hughes added a hit and an RBI, while Davis Roberson finished with two hits.
