Blacksburg Eliminates Radford To Advance To Tonight's Dixie AAA Championship Game

Blacksburg would use a strong first and fourth inning, as they defeated Radford, 11-7, Wednesday evening in the Dixie AAA, District 3 Baseball Tournament being played at Randolph Park in Dublin.

Blacksburg now faces Pulaski County East at 6 p.m. tonight for the District 3 title and the chance to move on to state play. Radford's season comes to an end.

Radford would jump out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single off the bat of Brett Armentrout that scored Chance Morris, who had singled earlier. In the bottom of the first, Blacksburg would take the lead for good, as they crossed the plate five times to take an early 5-1 advantage. A two-run double by Jacob Lucas, along with three errors that lead to scores highlighted the inning.

Blacksburg would tack on a run in the bottom of the second when Grant Johnston was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Ben Freel to make it 6-1.

In the top of the third, an RBI double by Reese Williamson and a two-run single by Bayley Holbrook allowed Radford to cut it deficit to 6-4.

Blacksburg would pull away in the bottom of the fourth when they scored five times to take an 11-4 lead. RBI singles by Davis Roberson and Dom Hughes, along with an RBI fielder's choice by Lucas help account for the outburst.

In the top of the sixth, Radford would score twice on errors, as they cut the final margin to 11-7.

Bayley Holbrook led Radford with two hits and two RBIs. Chance Morris had two hits, Brett Armentrout had a hit and an RBI, Reese Williamson had a hit and an RBI, while Christian Muttard and Parker Griffith added a hit each.
