In a game that saw both teams combine for 29 runs, Pulaski County East outlasted Blacksburg, 16-13, in the championship game of the Dixie AAA, District 3 All-Stars Baseball Tournament Thursday night at Randolph Park in Dublin.
The Pulaski County East All-Stars will now represent District 3 in the Dixie State Tournament, which starts July 16 in Madison Heights.
Jordan Lytton led off the top of the first for Pulaski with a double and Trent Blankenship followed by reaching on a fielder's choice. Back-to-back RBI fielder's choices by Alex Akers and Jaden Frazier gave the East squad a 2-0 lead. Blacksburg would answer in its half of the first. RBI singles by Davis Roberson and Jacob Lucas, along with a two-run single off the bat of Hunter Radford would give Blacksburg a 4-2 lead.
In the top of the second, Pulaski County would send 11 batters to the plate. The big blows were an RBI single by Adam Baber, a two-run single by Lytton and an RBI single from Blankenship would put Pulaski County East back in front, 8-4. Blacksburg would once again answer, a three-run triple by Jared Madigan and an RBI single off the bat of Cole Epperly led to a four-run outburst, which allowed Blacksburg to tie the game at 8-8.
Pulaski County would add a run in the top of the third compliments of an RBI single from Caleb Kirtner to take a short-lived 9-8 lead. In the bottom of the third, Blacksburg used RBI singles from Madigan and Dom Hughes, along with two errors to cross the plate five times and pull out to a 13-9 advantage,
Pualski County East added two runs in the top of the fourth on an RBI single by Andrew Lowe. They also added four more runs in the fifth, thanks to an RBI single from Randy Brunk and an RBI single from Blankenship and two errors to take a 15-13 lead. An RBI fielder's choice by Brunk in the top of the sixth would allow Pulaski County to advance with the exciting 16-13 victory.![]()
Jared Madigan led Blacksburg with four hits and four RBIs, while Dom Hughes had two hits and an RBI and Hunter Radford added a hit and two RBIS.
Thomas Anderson, Trent Blankenship and Caleb Kirtner all led Pulaski County East with two hits and an RBI.
