Callaway — Calvin Brooks took another step closer to his first track championship on a rainy Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.
Brooks won the 25-lap Late Model Stock feature, and trails point leader Billy Martin of Stuart by seven points. Martin crashed early in the race, coming out of turn four, when something broke in his front end. It was the Bassett drivers second win of the season.
Rookie Wesley Thomason of Vinton finished a close second, after battling Brooks on several restarts.
Arlie Thomas of Hillsville was responsible for most of the restarts, with four spins.
The nights racing had three rain delays.
The Southern “Grounder Pounder” 20-lap feature had two winners. Joseph Overfelt of Bedford won the Open Wheel Modified race. Tommy Buxton of Raleigh, NC won the Sportsman race.
Steve Cannaday of Martinsviile won the Mod-4 race. Point leader Cody Woodward 15, was second.
Callaway’s own Hunter Feazell 13, won the Mini Cup race.
Other Winners: Chris Amos-Super U-Car, Ryan Cox-U-Car, Jonathan Weaver-Street Stock.
Racing returns to the speedway Saturday night August 4th at 8PM.
