Callaway — Eddie Young got the season started with luck on his side, Saturday night at Franklin County Speedway.
Young won the 35-lap Late Model feature, missing a crash between Steven Weeks of Floyd and 2009 Rookie of the Year Kyle Dudley 18, on the 7th lap, while the two, were battling for the lead.
Weeks and Dudley had a very different opinion of what happened, when they wrecked in turn three.
“He (Dudley) took me out. I am going to get him back. I don’t care if it’s here or Motor Mile” Weeks said. “ Weeks was blocking the track and he came down on me.” Dudley a senior at Lord Botetourt High School said.
Weeks battled back to finish third. Dudley retired with a broken sway bar.
Young, the defending Track Champion, took the lead from second place finisher Wes Green of Moseley a few circuits later, and rolled to his first win of the season.
Young’s season started a lot better than it did in 2009, when the Penhook driver crashed the first two weeks of the season.
“We were lucky tonight.” Young said. “This is a lot better way to start the season than we did last year. I really thought Steven and Kyle had a stronger car than we did.
Rocky Mount “ Young Guns,” finished first and second in the 25-lap Mini Stock race. Dakota Hogan 18, was first and Jonathan Smith 17, was second.
Cameron Conner 14, finished third in his racing debut.
