With more than 6,000 current active members in the Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department, Art Price has a lot to be proud of, as his reign as Director comes to an end in the next few days.

The Christiansburg Department of Parks and Recreation is currently taking registration for all Adult Basketball leagues. The leagues offered are Mens and Women’s Fastbreak Open League, Slowbreak Open, 30 and over Slowbreak, Womens Slowbreak  and Slowbreak Church. Registration has been extended to Friday, Dec. 9

Christiansburg Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registrations for its youth basketball program.

The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department will be sponsoring a Punt, Pass and Kick competition this afternoon, Sunday, Sept. 18, at the Christiansburg High School Football Field. The event starts at 2 p.m.

The Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting registrations for its youth football league, along with baseball and softball leagues.

The Famous Chicken is coming back to Salem on Saturday, August 13, when the Red Sox host the Kinston Indians.  “Old Timers” and not so “Old Timers” will remember the Chicken as the famous mascot for the San Diego Padres, other sporting events, and concerts.  Currently, the Chicken makes about 250 appearances annually and was named one of the 100 most powerful people in sports for the 20th century by “The Sporting News.”

The Dixie District 6 Sub-District Softball Tournament will get underway this Friday evening at the Kiwanis Field with games scheduled in the Angels and Ponytails Division.

The annual 2011 Dixie Angels and Ponytails Softball Challenge will be held today and Sunday, May 14-15 at the Harkrader Sports Complex, Falling Branch and Kiwanis Park fields. The two-day event is sponsored by the Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department.
