The 2010-11 Montgomery County Parks and Recreation youth basketball season will have limited sign-ups due to lack of gym space in the county. Blacksburg team sign-up will not be offered this season.
Per area (Auburn and Eastern Montgomery), there will be 20 children per age group, per division. This equals two Auburn teams and two Eastern Montgomery Teams in each age group and division. Each team will have 10 players only. Auburn Elementary and Auburn Middle school students only are eligible to sign up for Auburn teams; Eastern Montgomery Elementary and Shawsville Middle school students only are eligible to sign up for Eastern Montgomery teams.
Registrations are on a first come, first serve basis only. Once the 20-child limit is reached in each age group and division, the registration process will be closed. The season will begin after students return from winter break.
“We apologize in advance for lack of space and apologize that we will have to turn kids away,” Montgomery County Parks and Recreation staff said. “There are other leagues throughout the New River Valley – including town leagues at Christiansburg Parks and Recreation and Blacksburg Parks and Recreation, Upward Basketball and AAU Basketball – that we hope will offset our unfortunate circumstances this season and provide opportunity to Montgomery County children.”
