Roanoke Parks and Recreation is excited to announce that the Roanoke 100-Miler program will be back for a second year. Last year, approximately 850 people participated in the challenge to complete 100 miles of human-powered exercise in 100 days. Registration is now open and the program begins on Jan. 7.

Beginning on Monday, July 30, Roanoke Skate Park will be temporarily closed for waterline repair. The parking area behind the skate park as well as the fenced in portion of the skate park will be closed to allow the Western Virginia Water Authority to work on the waterline.

The City of Roanoke Parks and Recreation will begin pool season with a soft opening at Washington Park Pool on Saturday, June 2, from noon to 7 p.m. and on Sunday, June 3 from noon to 6 p.m. Washington Park Pool will open for the season on Friday, June 8 at noon.

North Roanoke Little League Vipers took on the Botetourt Little League Broncos in the 29th Annual Jim Carroll Regional Sandlot Football Super Bowl championships last Saturday at the Salem Stadium. The Vipers defeated the Broncos 20-8 to become the 2011 Regional Little League Sandlot Super Bowl Champions.

The first annual Future Stars Football Camp will be held July 26 through 28 at Patrick Henry High School from 6 to 8 p.m. The camp is for young people ages 6 to 12 and is offered free of charge to Roanoke City residents. Participants can register on-site for one evening of camp or all three.
