Northside captured its second-straight Botetourt Bash, Black Division championship Saturday, as the blanked Spotswood 3-0 in the semis and James River in the title game by the same identical score, at the Botetourt Sports Complex.
NHS 3, Spotswood 0 (semifinals)
In the fourth inning, Cara Hoopes of Northside drew a walk, Kathleen Carr singled and both were sacrificed over by Aishia Wiley. Bries Pinero then hit a two-RBI double to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
In the fifth, Michelle Eplion singled and was driven in by Cara Hoopes to give Northside a 3-0 advantage.
Spotswood challenged in the fifth, but a great defensive run down play by Lauren Boitnot, Michelle Eplion, Aishia Wiley and Taylor Grubb took them out of the inning.
Lauren Boitnott picked up the win for Northside. She gave up no runs on no hits, walking none and striking out nine in five innings. Caitlyn Porterfield worked one inning, giving up one hit and walking one, while Cara Hoops also worked an inning inside the circle, giving up a pair of hits.
NHS 3, James River 0 (championship)
The Vikings would get on the scoreboard in the third inning, Casey Craft singled and Caitlyn Porterfield followed with a single. Cara Hoopes then sacrificed them over and Kathleen Carr drove Craft and Porterfield home with a single to make it 2-0.
In the fourth inning, Michelle Eplion singled and was sacrificed over by Aishia Wiley. Taylor Grubb then drove in Eplion to make it 3-0, Vikings.
James River never challenged, as Northside played very good defense.
James River's Haley Shotwell and Jessica Simpkins combined for seven innings, striking out two, giving up eight hits, three runs and walking one.
Boitnott picked up the win for the Vikings. She gave up two hits and struck out nine in five innings. Caitlyn Porterfield worked an inning and gave up a hit, while Cara Hoopes worked an inning and gave up a hit and struck out one.
Northside's Lauren Boitnott was named MVP of the tournament.
