Stevan Richie scored 19 points to lead five Northside players in double-digits, as the Vikings ran away with an 82-70 win against Martinsville in the state Group AA boys tournament Friday night at Salem Civic Center.
Both teams would finish the opening quarter tied at18-all. The Vikings would methodically start to pull away in the second quarter, behind the hot shooting of Richie, who had 10 points in the quarter, and Trey Smith, who scored seven points. When the quarter ended, Northside had pulled out to a 42-35 halftime lead.
The Vikings would continue to dominate in the third quarter, as they outscored the Bulldogs, 26-19, to take a 68-56 advantage into the final quarter. Both teams would score 14 points each in the fourth quarter, as Northside pulled away with the 82-70 victory and a trip to the semifinals next week in Richmond.
For the game, Martinsville shot 41 percent (23-56) and Northside shot 42 percent (28-66).
The Vikings pulled down 40 rebounds, while the Bulldogs grabbed 33 boards.
Jarez Turner led Martinsville with a game-high 21 points and Chris Tyler finished with 16 points.
Stevan Richie led Northside with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Neil Brown contributed 17 points, Trey Smith tallied 16 points, Adam Burroughs had 13 points and Ryan Palmieri added 10 points.
