Rowsey Breaks School Record As Rockbridge Hammers Salem

rockbridge-coAndrew Rowsey scored a career-high 47 points, as he helped lead Rockbridge County to an 89-56 non-district boys' basketball win over Salem Saturday afternoon in the Roy Stanley Memorial Shootout at the Salem Civic Center.

The junior's 47 points allowed him to set a new single-game boys basketball record. The old mark was 42 points, in which he shared with former Rockbridge County standout Jeff Early. Rowsey also nailed eight of the Wildcats 11 three-pointers.

The Wildcats (19-1), who are the Blue Ridge District champions, staked out to a 17-4 lead after the opening quarter and increased their advantage to a commanding 44-19 halftime lead. Rockbridge outscored the Spartans (11-9) 32-16 in the third quarter to take 76-35 lead in the final quarter. The Wildcats continued to have the upper-hand in the fourth quarter to cruise to the 33-point win.

Javon Cress added 10 points for Rockbridge.

Alex Light led Salem with 14 points and John Repass scored 13 points.
