Witt Out As Staunton River's Football Coach

Staunton River High School is without a varsity football coach, after the sudden departure of Rick Witt.

Witt, who took over the Golden Eagles program 2008, is no longer a coach or a teacher at Staunton River, according to Ryan Edwards, Public Information Coordinator for Bedford County Schools. "Mr. Witt is no longer employed by Bedford County Schools," said Edwards Monday.

Officials at Staunton River High School referred all calls to the school board office.

According to various news sources, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the former coach, but would not specify details of the investigation.  Witt has not been charged with any crimes,

The Golden Eagles finished 5-6 this past season and made their first playoff appearance since 1996.
