Staunton River Ends Season Against Broadway

A scoring drought in the middle quarters proved to be the difference in this one, as Staunton River fell 70-54 to home-standing Broadway, in the opening round of the Region III, Division 4 boys basketball tournament Monday night.

Broadway now faces Heritage at 8 p.m. Wednesday night in the semifinals at Spotswood High School.

The Golden Eagles (6-17) flew out to a 17-10 lead after the opening quarter. Broadway would battle back in the second quarter, as they outscored Staunton River 21-6, to take a 31-23 halftime lead. The Golden Eagles would continue to struggle in the third quarter, as the Gobblers outscored their visitors 23-11, to take a commanding 54-34 advantage into the final quarter. Staunton River did manage to regain its shooting touch in the fourth quarter. However, it was too late, as Broadway pulled away with the 70-54 victory.

Chris Eggleston led Staunton River with 16 points and Meech Coles contributed 15 points.
