Alleghany Beats Staunton River To Force Three-Way Tie In BRD

Stephanie Smith and Rebecca Kimberlin combined for a no-hitter, as Alleghany defeated Staunton River, 9-0, in a Blue Ridge District softball contest Friday evening in Low Moor. By virtue of the Mountaineers win, there is a now a three-way tie for the district's regular-season crown.

William Byrd will play Northside at 4 p.m. this afternoon at Staunton River High School. The winner will play Alleghany, who drew the bye, on Monday for the regular-season crown and the automatic berth to the Region III tournament. The BRD tournament semis will now start on Wednesday.

Smith struck out 13 batters in five and one-third innings to get the win inside the circle for Alleghany.

Catie Carpenter led the Mountaineers with a 3-for-3 showing.
