In the opening round of the Blue Ridge District volleyball tournament, No. 3 seed  Staunton River defeated No. 6 seed Alleghany 20-25, 25-17, 25-20 and 25-20 Monday night in Moneta.

The Golden Eagles will meet No. 2 seed Northside in the semi-finals tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Alleghany High School.

Jewell McRoy led Staunton River with 49 assists, five aces and four kills. Brianna Holdren tallied 17 digs and 16 kills, while Abby Moran added 19 kills.
