William Byrd opened up its Blue Ridge District boys tennis slate Tuesday afternnoon, by claiming a 7-2 victory against Northside in Roanoke.
"It was time to see if the Terriers' efforts to serve more effectively and to extend points would pay off," said William Byrd head coach Jason Perdue. "The answer came quickly, as the Terriers jumped on top 5-0 with convincing wins in #'s 1-5 singles. Joseph Davis (#2) and Jim Fisher (#3) lead the way with a pair of 6-1; 6-0 victories. Brennan Escobar, Trevor Perdue, and Bryce Martin added solid wins. "
"Escobar and Perdue fought off a spirited challenge from the Vikings' #1 doubles team to win 7-5; 6-2. Bryce Martin and Will Trent won at #3 doubles 6-2; 7-6 (7-1) to provide the final margin of 7-2 against a young and athletic Northside squad," added Perdue.
A stern test awaits on Friday, as rival Lord Botetourt visits the William Byrd courts.
