In a battle, George Wythe claimed a 65-62 non-district boy's basketball win over Pulaski County Thursday night in Wytheville.

The Maroons (1-0) staked out to a 37-30 halftime lead and held off a Cougars (1-2) rally in the third quarter to pull out the slim three-point win at home.

Zac Akers led Pulaski County with 14 points and Dominic Morris added 11 points.

Isaac Baltazar paced George Wythe with a game-high 15 points. Myron Wynn tossed in 12 points, while Hardy Lester pulled down 10 rebounds and recorded five blocked shots.
