George Wythe used a strong third quarter to claim a 73-56 non-district boys' basketball win over Grayson County to take fifth place in the First Bank of Virginia Christmas Tournament Thursday in Max Meadows.
With the scored tied at 17-all after the opening quarter, the Maroons (3-3) pulled out to a 34-30 halftime lead. George Wythe outscored the Blue Devils (6-2) 18-7 in the third quarter to extend its lead to 52-37 heading into the fourth quarter. The Maroons continued to hold the upper-hand in the fourth quarter in taking the 17-point win.
Hardy Lester led George Wythe with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Shaquille Calfee added 14 points and Jalen France chipped in with 12 points.
Ty Cannaday led Grayson County with a game-high 23 points and Max Rogers added 12 points.
