Laurel Hankins recorded a double-double in helping lead the Bears to a 47-36 Mountain Empire District girls basketball win over the Maroon Tide Saturday evening in Bland.

Bland County (15-2, 6-1 MED) took a 17-6 lead after the opening quarter and increased its advantage to 27-15 at the half. Galax would outscore its hosts 10-5 in the third quarter to pull to within seven, 32-25. Bland would continue to hold the upper-hand in the final eight minutes, as the pulled away for the 47-36 victory.

Allison White led Galax with 16 points.

Laurel Hankins led Bland County with 11 points and 11 rebounds.Kirby Mustard contributed 16 points and Sam Magyer added 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
