Nancy Thacker notched a triple-double and Carlyta Hamm recorded a double-double, as the Pioneers claimed a 67-47 Mountain Empire District girls' basketball win over the Maroon Tide Monday night in Max Meadows.
Fort Chiswell (14-6, 4-4 MED) jumped out to a 19-13 lead after the opening quarter and increased its advantage to 28-22 at the half. The Pioneers would start to pull away in the third quarter, as they outscored Galax (9-10, 2-5 MED) 16-9, to take a 44-31 lead into the final quarter. The Pioneers would continue to pull away in the fourth quarter, as they claimed the 67-47 victory.
Bailey Shumate paced Galax with 15 points and Allison White had 12 points.
Nancy Thacker led Fort Chiswell with 11 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. Carlyta Hamm had a game-high 18 points and 19 rebounds, while Michelle Whitt tossed in 17 points and Sarah Whisman added 11 points.
