Fort Chiswell scored in the final minute, as they turned a seven-point deficit, into a 22-21 victory over Floyd County Friday night in Max Meadows.
Trailing 21-14, William Freeman scored on a 10-yard scamper and teamed up with Clark Studebaker on a two-point conversion pass with 58 seconds remaining to give the Pioneers (4-1) the exciting win.
Fort Chiswell took a 8-0 lead on a 6-yard run by Freeman and then converted on the two-point play. The Buffaloes (3-2) answered with a 6-yard run by Dorian Harris to take a 7-6 lead. A 23-yard field goal by Casey Underwood gave the Pioneers an 11-7 lead after the opening quarter.
Underwood would nail a 30-yard field goal early in the second quarter to pull Fort Chiswell a 14-7 lead. Floyd came right back with a 5-yard run by Harris and a 19-yard pass from Matt Hollandsworth to Cantrell to make it 21-14 at the half.
After a scoreless third quarter, the Pioneers would rally late in the fourth quarter to pull out the thriller, 22-21.
Johnse Hatfield led Fort Chiswell with 164 yards on 24 carries.
Dorian Harris led Floyd County with 204 yards on 28 carries and two touchdowns.
