A late rally by Fort Chiswell allowed them to claim a 5-3 victory over Grayson County in the championship game of the Mountain Empire District baseball tournament Thursday evening in Independence.
Trailing 3-1 going into the sixth inning, Tye Kirby smacked a three-run homer which allowed the Pioneers (17-2) to rally back and knock off the Blue Devils (12-7).
Darrin Roberts picked up the win on the mound for Fort Chiswell. He gave up three runs on six hits and striking out six in going the distance.
Dustin Leonard led Grayson County with two hits and two RBIs.
