Fort Chiswell handed Galax its first loss of the season, as the Pioneers claimed a 54-50 Mountain Empire District boys' basketball win Wednesday night in Max Meadows.
The Maroon Tide (16-1, 6-1 MED), who led 38-36 after three quarters of action, saw the Pioneers (14-5, 5-2) go on an 18-12 run in the fourth quarter to claim the four-point win at home.
Devonte McKinney paced Galax with a game-high 16 points. Deion George tossed in 13 points, Austin Pack scored 11 points and Lawrence Parsons added 10 points.
Nathaniel Worrell led Fort Chiswell with 13 points. Corey Gravely had 11 points and Cory Mabry finished with 10 points.
