Despite nailing 10 three-pointers, Galax still came up short, as they fell to Grayson County 69-64 in Mountain Empire District boys basketball action Friday night in Galax. It was the district opener for both teams.
The Maroon Tide (7-2, 0-1 MED) would jump out to a 21-14 lead after the first quarter and then pulled out to a 36-25 halftime advantage. Despite being outscored 21-12 in the third quarter by the Blue Devils (9-2, 1-0 MED), Galax still held a slim 48-46 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Grayson County would turn up the heat in the final quarter, as they outscored Galax 23-16, to pull away with the 69-64 victory.
Bubba Bowen led Grayson County with 22 points. Jake Blizzard contributed 14 points and Eric Harvey notched 12 points.
Deion George led Galax with 22 points, including five 3-pointers. Justin Hash tossed in 19 points, including four 3-pointers and Devae Goins finished with 16 points.
