Eric Harvey scored a game-high 34 points in helping lead Grayson County to the Mountain Empire District boys title with an exciting 86-81 victory over Fort Chiswell Saturday night in Max Meadows.
The Blue Devils (19-3) would take an early 22-19 lead after the initial quarter and would increase their advantage to 45-40 at the break. Chilhowie (9-13) would outscore Grayson County 23-20 in the third quarter to pull to within two, 65-63, going into the final quarter. The Pioneers would stay within striking distance throughout the fourth quarter and even at one point tied the game. However, the Blue Devils would hang on for the 86-81 thriller.
Parker Mabe led Fort Chiswell with 19 points and Jared Smith added 16 points.
In addition to Harvey's 34 tallies, Mike Rodgers and Bubba Brown finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
